Janet's Visual Scanning Page 2
5. Now we will try visually scanning objects as they jump from one position to the next in saccadic movements. This mimics how our eyes jump from word to word when we read.  The first exercises involves watchng a red ball as it jumps positions, from left to right and back.  Then the following exercises involve focusing on objects that jump slowly from left to right, and then return to the left margin, just as your eyes must do to change from reading one line to the next line. Move the scroll bar at the right until you can only see the object moving on your comuter screen. While keeping your head still, keep your eyes on the object as it moves across the page. Concentrate on this for one minute. When you are done with this, close your eyes for 10 seconds. Then, scroll down to the next exercise.
Now that you have practice smooth visual tracking and saccadic visual scanning, go to the next page to practice putting it all together.  PAGE 3   To return to the homepage, click here. PAGE 1
6.  Now we will practice visual scanning up and down as you do when copying words from a blackboard. Move the scroll bar at the right until you can only see the object going up and down on your comuter screen. While keeping your head still, keep your eyes on the object as it moves up and down across the page. Concentrate on this for one minute. When you are done with this, close your eyes for 10 seconds. Then, scroll down to the next exercise.
