Janet's Visual Scanning Page 3
7. Now it is time to try to focus on objects moving in a variety of positions. We will start with pendulum exercises. Move the scroll bar at the right until you can only see the ball objects on your comuter screen. See if you can keep your eyes focused on the pendulum ball as it swing back and forth and then on the second one as it swings all the way around in a circle or on the metronome as it ticks back and forth. See if you can keep your eyes on the little man as he walks all the way around the box. Try to focus on the ball as it comes towards you or away from you. The try to keep watching the radar beam as it completely and continuously circles. Concentrate on each for one minute. When you are done with this, close your eyes for 10 seconds. Then, scroll down to the next exercise.

8. Now we will practice trying to maintain focus on an object in the middle while ignoring movement around where you are looking. Try to focus on the center of the kaleidoscopes or moving balls below and avoid being distracted by the changing patterns. Move the scroll bar at the right until you can only see the kaleidoscope on your comuter screen. Concentrate on each for one minute. When you are done with this, close your eyes for 10 seconds. Then, scroll down to the next exercise.

9. On the moving bar below, try to focus on the middle area of the bar while trying to also notice it as it expands outwards to the sides. This is training your peripheral vision, which is your ability to be aware of things happening at the sides of your vision while you are looking at something in the middle.
That's the end of our exercises for now. Check back, as I will try to periodically add more things to challenge your tracking and scanning abilities. As Julius Caesar said, "Veni, vidi, vici", or "I came, I saw, I conquered" - no doubt referring to his mastery of his academic subjects after he improved his vision with visual tracking and scanning exercises. :)
